The 20s and 30s
Peter and Maria Bacher who originate from the Pustertal (South Tyrol) came to Mayrhofen with there children where they worked hard on the foundation of their bakery business.
The 40s and 50s
Hans, son of Peter and Maria Bacher, ran a shop for bread and regional products together with his wife Veronika. The Americans provided the shop with flour so the bakery could produce and sell bread. In 1952, the business has been expanded. Bacher cookies were being produced and were delivered all through Austria!
1964 – 2003
Karlheinz and Brigitta Bacher took over the business from Karlheinz’s father Hans. The original house was being expanded and the bakery modernized. In 1991, the family opened a branch of their bakery in Schwendau.
2004 – Today
Markus and Gerti Bacher took over the business. In 2004 they added a small café area to the shop.
In 2008, the new bakery branch in Schwendau was opened. It includes a café area.
Markus and Gerti Bacher kept modernizing their business. With the construction of a wood-burning oven, they were able to produce their unique “Holzofen Brot” (wood oven bread). Furthermore, Markus was awarded the regional patent for the Swiss specialty Pain Paillasse and has since been able to provide his clients with this delicacy.
Markus was once the youngest master baker of Austria and was able to secure numerous gold- and silver medals in various international bread-baking competitions.
